Landcare Specialist – Central West NSW – POSITION CLOSED

THIS POSITION IS NOW CLOSED   The Cobbora Coal Project is a new project which will supply up to 9.5 million tonnes of coal per annum to the three customers which operate major coal-fired power stations in NSW.
We are seeking an experienced Landcare Specialist who will be responsible for developing and implementing a comprehensive land management plan for this large scale project. This is a unique opportunity to work with an exciting venture involved in the development of long term energy security for NSW, based in the Central West of the state.
Working to improve agricultural productivity and biodiversity conservation outcomes, you will be working both independently and as a part of a team and responsible for:
  • Liaising with technical specialists and regulatory authorities
  • Supervising various consultants and subcontractors
  • Managing the mapping of agricultural capability and biodiversity regeneration potential
  • Contributing to the preparation and implementation of a land tenure and management program
  • Managing an employment, training and skills development program aimed at improving local land and management techniques, resources and knowledge
  • Preparing a financial budget for the land management plan
  • Ensuring the land management plan complies with environmental management system requirements
The successful applicant will have:
  • A tertiary qualification in either environmental management, environmental engineering, environmental science, agricultural science or another related discipline
  • A valid “C” class licence
  • Experience and knowledge of “best practice” management of rural enterprises as well as establishment and ongoing management of an open cut mine.
  • Experience in the adaptive implementation of a comprehensive land management plan and rehabilitation plan for both mine areas and other rural land holdings including biodiversity surveys and community impact assessments, bushfire planning, bush regeneration and vegetation management
  • Knowledge and proficiency in financial management, accounting principles
  • An understanding of environment, local government and heritage laws
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to liaise with a range of stakeholders
